Kudos to the governor for this forward thinking plan to fix our infrastructure. All state residents will benefit from this modest tax increase. We owe it to ourselves. Years of neglect have taken their toll on the system. I would hate for us to wait until a bridge collapses (like in Minneapolis) to suck up the courage and do the right thing. It is now up to the state house to take the governor's plan, engage in constructive debate, and make sure that any gas tax increase is earmarked and designated ONLY for the transportation uses detailed in the plan. In addition, lawmakers must reform the system and remove the duplication that is so prevalent today.

How about showing the taxpayers some actual reform before reaching into our pockets again and again and again. Many commuters have no viable "alternate" options like the T and are just recovering from last years $4 per gallon rates, with a 19 cent gas tax, that just puts us that much closer to being on the edge again, and the prices of gasoline will be going back up without new taxes. As a taxpayer, I stress that you show us the reform before even thinking about raising the taxes. We are not an unlimited ATM machine who can expense all of our travel back onto the other tax payers.
