The MBTA today runs more weekday bus trips while spending much less on employee overtime compared to 2005.
Today, because the T has hired more bus drivers and mechanics, the actual number of bus trips being run each weekday is 41 MORE than that of a typical weekday in 2005 (from 2,750 to 2,791)
In FY 2005, just before Dan Grabauskas became T General Manager, $36.8 million was spent on overtime. In FY09, overtime spending is projected to be $19 million. The MBTA has reduced overtime spending while improving service and keeping total employee headcount below the level approved by the MBTA Board of Directors. Comparisons below.

I'm impressed, we went from 36.8 million to 19 million in overtime spending. So does that mean the T has a 17.8 million surplus? Wow. Good going... If only it were true.
