The Patrick-Murray Administration announced that the repair of the Route 112 bridge over the CSX Railroad and Westfield River in Huntington is moving forward as part of the Governor’s historic $3 billion Accelerated Bridge Program approved by the legislature in 2008. MassHighway will oversee construction.
The $2.4-million project involves cleaning and painting structural steel on the main span and sealing and resurfacing the bridge deck, along with repair of floor beam and bridge rails. The contractor has a goal of completing the project by November 30.
The Accelerated Bridge Program will repair and replace bridges in the most urgent need, reducing by at least 250 the number of structurally-deficient bridges by 2016. The program is a key component of Governor Patrick's Recovery Plan and will create thousands of engineering and construction jobs and provide long term savings in avoided inflation and deferred maintenance costs.
