At Governor Deval Patrick's direction, Transportation Secretary James Aloisi announced independent peer reviews by national experts of MBTA safety-related policies and procedures in the wake of this month’s Green Line accident.
Aloisi and MBTA General Manager Daniel Grabauskas have asked the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) to conduct a comprehensive review of employment and training practices, including qualifications and experience requirements. The group will also review the feasibility of implementing Positive Train Control or similar technology on the Green Line trolley system.
APTA’s peer review panels typically consist of three to five experts from around the country. The panel will provide a summary of findings and recommendations to Secretary Aloisi and the MBTA, including formal recommendations in a written report.
