MassHighway using Accelerated Bridge Program contract funds moved quickly to repair a structurally-deficient bridge in Charlton.
The Hammond Hill Road Bridge over the Little River was identified as structurally deficient and closed for repairs in late August. MassHighway contractors with assistance from the Town repaired deteriorated beams, installed new concrete deck, improved sidewalks, and replaced the bridge railings and approach.
Less than one month later, the $163,000 project was done and the bridge reopened in mid-September. It is off the list of structurally-deficient bridges and the repairs should last for at least 20 years.
