A Public Information Meeting for the Longfellow Bridge Rehabilitation Project will be held:
Thursday, November 5, 2009
6:00-8:00 PM
Shriners Hospitals for Children, Auditorium
51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA
The meeting will provide details of the Bridge Preservation Contract to be advertised this fall. The early preservation work will include pilot work on the granite masonry and piers, sandblasting and cleaning the steel ribs to prepare them for later work and assess the need for any major repairs, and relocation of utilities beneath the bridge. The preservation contract is a smaller part of the larger Longfellow Bridge Rehabilitation Project. The public will have an opportunity to ask questions and provide input on the preservation phase of work for the rehabilitation of the Longfellow Bridge over the Charles River.
The Longfellow Bridge Rehabilitation Project is one of the signature components of the Commonwealth's Accelerated Bridge Program, a $3 billion, 8-year effort to expedite the repair and replacement of structurally deficient Massachusetts bridges.
