Governor Deval Patrick today joined Congressman Richard Neal announcing a total of nearly $23 million in federal stimulus American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds for two projects- rebuilding Pulaski Boulevard in Bellingham and 10 miles of nearby Route 146 from Uxbridge to Sutton. Both roads are important local and busy commuter routes.
Bellingham- Pulaski Boulevard
The $13 million federal stimulus Bellingham project will reconstruct 2.2 miles of Pulaski Boulevard from Moody Street to the Franklin town line, including rehabilitation of the bridge over Peter’s River. The project will improve safety and enhance convenience for motorists along the Boulevard, an important commuter route to I-495 in Franklin. Construction is expected to begin in the spring. Route 146
The $9.9 million federal stimulus project will resurface and improve 10 miles of Route 146 from just north of the Chocolog Road interchange in Uxbridge through Northbridge and Douglas to the Sutton Town line. Route 146 is a key route that connects Providence, Rhode Island with Worcester. Construction is expected to begin in the spring. Watch the video.
These projects illustrate the Patrick-Murray Administration’s commitment to investing ARRA funds in road and bridge projects that will provide jobs for today and for tomorrow – in every corner of the Commonwealth, pushing projects out the door as fast as possible to fix broken roads and bridges, spark long term economic development, and improve access to transit, bicycling and walking.
By early spring 2010 the entire $437.9M allotment of ARRA highway funds allocated to Massachusetts will have been dedicated and all projects will be ready for construction or already underway. Learn more about the Massachusetts Recovery Plan.
