The Patrick-Murray Administration has awarded a $2.4 million Public Works Economic Development (PWED) grant for streetscape and infrastructure improvements for the Braintree/Weymouth Landing Project.
The PWED grant will leverage $2.2 million in additional private investment, transforming an important business area with new street paving, sidewalks, lighting, overhead utility removal and landscaping, while creating an estimated 75 permanent jobs.
MassDOT awards PWED grants to municipalities for transportation infrastructure improvements that will spur economic development, job creation, smart growth and better pedestrian access. Since 2000, MassDOT has awarded $99.6 million dollars of PWED contracts for 98 projects in 66 municipalities across the Commonwealth. This MassDOT funding has leveraged hundreds of millions of dollars in private investment and helped create thousands of local jobs, both permanent jobs and temporary construction jobs.
