Kristina Egan, South Coast Rail Project Manager
Governor Patrick's commitment to the South Coast Rail project and the hard work of so many people in planning for this effort are now being recognized. I am pleased to tell our transportation blog readers that the Massachusetts Chapter of the American Planning Association has announced that the 2009 President’s Award for Outstanding Planning goes to South Coast Rail’s Economic Development and Land Use Corridor Plan.
APA-MA’s awards recognize innovation, quality, transferability and comprehensiveness and this year, stressed implementation as an important factor. This ground breaking plan was developed with unprecedented public input and through the contributions of many individuals and organizations including Goody Clancy, as the lead consultant, and the Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development District.
We are making progress each day toward keeping the promise of making South Coast Rail a reality. I look forward to continuing the dialogue on this exciting project in the months ahead and appreciate your feedback. And please check out the latest information about South Coast Rail and view the Corridor Plan released by the Governor in August on our website.

I am looking for maps of the potential routes.

The SouthCoast Rail Project is a solution in search of a problem. An outstanding planning effort would have recognized that months ago. The state does not care at all about the citizens and will incur large costs in legal costs as it destroys communities.

A well-deserved honor -- the corridor planning study is an excellent piece of work and a model for how to leverage transit-oriented development when investing in rail transit.

Are You kidding me? The SouthCoast Rail Project is a solution in search of a problem. An outstanding planning effort would have recognized that months ago, and advised the Sec and the Gov to Stop this silly Project. It is not financially feasible, economically feasible, or environmentally feasible. Please.

The plan destroys one town for another. It does not take into account safety or care of the citizens and will be damaging to all the residents of these communities. The state does not care at all about the citizens and will incur large costs in legal costs as it destroys communities. This plan should never have been instituted and is only detrimental to all.
