As part of the commitment to civic engagement and customer service, MassDOT held the first in a series of regional Community Forums in Framingham last evening before approximately 60 citizens, legislators, and town officials.
MassDOT representatives offered brief overviews of transportation reform along with commuter and freight rail issues of interest in the MetroWest region, followed by an hour-long question and answer discussion.
Legislators contributing to the Forum discussion included Senator Karen Spilka and Representatives Pam Richardson, Tom Sannacandro, Alice Peisch, and Danielle Gregoire, along with town officials from Framingham, Ashland, Hopkinton, Marlboro, and Holliston.
Forum questions focused on rail, including rail at-grade crossing issues related to the MassDOT agreement with CSX Transportation to purchase the Boston to Worcester rail line through Framingham. The agreement expected to be finalized this year calls for bridge work to allow double-stack freight trains, while also allowing for increased commuter rail service.
The discussion was well-received with thanks to MassDOT and Secretary Jeff Mullan for a commitment to open dialogue on transportation issues and reform.
