Customer service and accessibility for customers of all abilities are top priorities at the MBTA. To date in 2010, the T reports its systemwide elevators and escalators are working properly at extremely high levels.
The T's 136 elevators are working at the 99.78% level in 2010, including at least five days in which all 100% of the elevators were working all day without interruption. So far this year, MBTA escalators have functioned properly at the 98.67% level.

Catching up on the blog here and it's interesting I come upon this post this week.
Right now the Kendall escalator is out of service for maintenance. This will require it to be out of service for a month. I can only assume this month doesn't count towards the downtime numbers?
I as because, while the T escalators are indeed workhorses, I find it hard to believe maintenance on any escalator takes a full month, yet that's what I tend to see throughout the system. Now I see escalators in stores, malls, businesses and they're down for a day max to do repair and work. I'm wondering why T escalator service tends to take weeks instead of days....
thanks
