Governor Patrick has proclaimed a state motorcycle safety period from March 22 through April 30. The Registry of Motor Vehicles sponsors the Mass Rider Education Program, providing training, materials, new Rider Coach training and promotional and technical assistance to a statewide network of training sites.
Mass Rider programs are available at locations through the state. A total of 8,041 riders participated in the basic Rider Course in 2009, plus an additional 553 participating in the experienced Rider Course. As of 2008 there were 182,285 registered motorcycles in Massachusetts, up 1.2% compared to the previous year.
