The Chelsea Street Bridge over the
Chelsea River is reopening during daytime hours today, Thursday April 22 at 3:30pm, more than four days ahead of schedule. The Bridge closed at 5 a.m.
Tuesday, April 20 to allow for construction of the Chelsea Tower as
part of the ongoing bridge reconstruction project.
The closure was expected to last for seven straight days and nights. Good weather and hard work by project contractors allowed the north towers to be successfully lifted into place and the bridge to reopen.
As part of the ongoing project, the
previously scheduled night time closures will continue as follows:
Closed tonight Thursday and tomorrow Friday April 23, 8pm to 5am.
Closed Sunday April 25 through Thursday April 29, 8pm to 5am.
These nightly closures will allow for continued work on the Chelsea towers, and the steel delivery for the second set of towers for the East Boston side of the bridge.
