Governor Deval Patrick today announced $400,000 in state transportation funds to support Route 114 Pleasant Street corridor improvements from Village Street to Smith Street in Marblehead.
This project is focused on improving pedestrian safety along a busy section of Pleasant Street and includes roadway realignment, new sidewalks and traffic signal modifications, wheelchair ramps and crosswalks along with pedestrian crossing warning markings and signs."This intersection has been a priority for Marblehead's elected officials at the local, state and federal levels for years and I'm pleased that the Administration has recognized the importance of the project and has appropriated the funds to get the project done," said Senator Thomas McGee.
According to Representative Lori Ehrlich, "school reconfiguration in recent years has lowered the age of students walking to and from the two schools that feed into this intersection which has already been a hazard for decades. I am very proud that Governor Patrick has committed to partner with the town on this important pending public safety project."
