"Pedal & Park" is the winning entry in the MBTA Rename the Bike Cages contest, unveiled today.
The MBTA contest allowed the public an opportunity to rename the bike cage. The week long contest received approximately 560 entries with Pedal & Park as the winning entry. Three finalists, Tim Blazej, Jessica Wiegand, and Steven Ucher provided similar entries and were honored. Their names were placed in a hat with Jessica Wiegand, unveiling the sign at left, winning the grand prize of a folding bicycle courtesy of Back Bay Cycles. All three recipients received a month Link Pass and an MBTA T shirt. "Pedal & Park" will be prominently displayed at all existing and future bike parking facilities system-wide. The MBTA is expanding bicycle parking facilities at stations throughout the system, supported by federal stimulus American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds.
The T will construct up to 8 bicycle cages. The first bike cages are at Alewife and Forest Hills Stations another bike cage to open at South Station by the end of the summer. The camera-monitored bike cages can only be accessed with special Bike CharlieCards.
