The program it is replacing gave you a pass you could use with any car you put on the account. This new one links the parking pass to a specific car, so if you have to drive a different car for some reason, you are stuck double-paying!

Why not include MBTA parking garages at Alewife etc ??

This is an attempt to rip off the public. As it is, the dishonorable lot managers already randomly affix 'fine' envelopes to cars that park in the lots in an effort to extort even more money from riders illegally. This has happened to me three times in the past year (been riding for 4 years). I ride the train everyday out of Ashland. Most days my spouse drops me off. About three times per month I park and pay in advance at the less than 'honor'able fare box. Other passengers have had the same issue. The lot managers target cars that don't park often (they keep lists of plate numbers - I caught them writing down plate numbers). I call immediately from the lot and get a recording or a person and am told 'sorry, nothing I can do please send $5 to". So I mail the envelope back with a letter and my phone number looking to discuss this. They have never called me back! I have complained to the MBTA and have never received any follow up. The current pre-pay phone program is a failure for the same reason - the lot managers tag cars that paid as having not paid. This monthly program is a BAD IDEA! BAD IDEA! If the lot is full they get paid even if no spaces available? Taxation without representation!

From the Globe on this topic Sunday: The system has safeguards. The collectors open the back wall of the payment box to reveal a second wall of plexiglass, which allows them to take a digital photo documenting which slots contain folded bills and which do not, as well as how many are bunched in each slot. Then they press a button, and the money pools into one tamper-proof container.

The T says audits are done and the T is confident’ no money is pocketed and that notices are issued only to those who fail to pay, insert insufficient funds, or pay in the wrong slot.

Why not make the monthly card more flexible.
People take vacations and days off, plus may not work on holidays.
It would make more sense to buy a card for a set $ amount which could be automatically topped up

What happens if I purchase the monthly pass and there are no more available parking spots?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
A monthly parking pass is not a guarantee of a parking spot in the busiest lots but should be convenient for daily users of T lots.

Great idea, makes lots of sense.
