Work continues in Quincy-Boston on Phase II of the Neponset River Bridge project, funded by the Patrick-Murray Administration's Accelerated Bridge Program to repair structurally deficient bridges across the Commonwealth.
As part of the work, effective February 1 the ramp from Quincy Shore Drive to Hancock Street- the area of Neponset River Landing beneath the Neponset River Bridge- will close to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
Vehicular traffic on Quincy Shore Drive traveling westbound will be rerouted via East Squantum Street to Hancock Street (Route 3A). Traffic will be directed north on Hancock Street in order to access another ramp from the Hancock Street side of the Bridge down to the Neponset River Landing area beneath the Neponset River Bridge. Pedestrian access along this ramp is also closed.
As part of this construction phase, the ramp from the Neponset River Bridge/Quincy Shore Drive to Marina Bay will re-open to traffic on Monday, February 7, 2011. This is one week later than originally announced, due to weather conditions.
The ongoing additional lane restrictions for the Neponset River Bridge Rehabilitation Project in place until further notice include 3 northbound travel lanes from the mid point of the bridge to Neponset Circle and one southbound travel lane from Neponset Circle to the midpoint of the bridge Monday through Friday. 6 AM to 10 AM. At all other times, two lanes will be provided in each direction on the main span of the bridge.
The Neponset River Bridge Phase II Rehabilitation Project will replace the concrete deck, expansion joints, sidewalks and lighting system, along with accessibility improvements for pedestrians and bicyclists.

How will pedestrians cross the bridge after Feb.1?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Answer: Pedestrians will be detoured to Hancock Street via Billings Street & Commander Shea Blvd. The pedestrian signal to cross Quincy Shore Drive at Terrill Street should be utilized. A map of this is available on the project website linked from this post.
