Restoring the daily Vermonter service to this line is a great development.

The obvious next step would be to increase service on the line. Short diesel multiple unit (DMU) trains running several times a day between New Haven, Hartford, Springfield, Northampton, and Greenfield would be a low-cost way to provide quick and convenient service for a corridor with this level of travel demand.

Trains like the RegioSprinter have allowed big expansions of rail service to similar regions in Europe, and would make a lot of sense here, if the Federal Railroad Administration granted a waiver for them.
