Hurricane Sandy Monday, October 29 Travel Updates

MassDOT is responding to Sandy with safety for our customers and employees as the highest priority.  All travel is discouraged on Monday, October 29th. 

MBTA

The MBTA is suspending all service at 2 pm Monday, October 29, due to projected high winds.
Commuter Boats were suspended effective the start of service Monday, October 29 due to high wind and rain.

RMV

Registry of Motor Vehicles branch offices are closed on Monday, October 29.

CDL road tests scheduled for Tuesday, October 30 have been canceled at the following locations: Otis, Dartmouth, South Deerfield, Everett and Sterling. Class D road tests scheduled for Tuesday on Martha's Vineyard also are cancelled.

MassDOT Highway Division

The sandbagging operation at the Asonnet depot in Freetown continues operating. District 5 staff members are supporting the Army National Guard, providing two front-end loaders and equipment operators. This operation will continue until further notice.

District 4 provided the town of Newbury with a portable variable message sign in support of a voluntary evacuation from Plum Island. All districts completed their preparedness activities and are responding to any incidents on state roadways caused by hurricane Sandy.

The State of Connecticut as of Monday is prohibiting all truck traffic on highways until further notice. MassDOT advises truck drivers to seek refuge at secure locations in Massachusetts. MassDOT depots and area rest stops will be open for truck driver relief.  These prohibitions do not extend to emergency vehicles, utility vehicles and those carrying emergency supplies.

Regional Transit Authorities

Cape Cod RTA – Services Canceled
Pioneer Valley RTA – Reduced Service on some routes.
Southeastern RTA – Normal Service although route by route

Remaining RTA service providers will continue monitoring the storm and  make operational decisions accordingly.

Amtrak

Amtrak canceled Northeast Corridor service north of New York starting at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 28, and canceled nearly all service on the eastern seaboard on Monday, October 29. All Acela Express, Northeast Regional service canceled.

Early tuesday traffic between Shelburne Falls and greenfield and Route 91 North to Brattleboro Retreat. Is this route clear. Wanting to get to work by 7am.

Does MassDOT have a website that lists road closures?

I heard that Morrissey Boulevard is closed, as is Route 1 southbound in in Foxboro. But I don't see anything about those closures on the map at http://mass511.com , nor on http://www1.eot.state.ma.us/ . And all I see on http://www.massdot.state.ma.us/ is a link to this blog.

Thanks for the comment. No map was generated as fortunately isolated road closures in Massachusetts caused primarily by downed trees and utility lines were short-lived.
