MassDOT's enhanced maintenance schedule is resuming and will require complete lane closures of Interstate 93 Southbound through Boston beginning tonight.
The I-93 Southbound full closure will begin at midnight tonight through Wednesday, January 9, 5:00am.
I-93 Southbound traffic will be detoured off of the highway at Rt. 38/Mystic Ave onto surface streets and allowed to re-enter I-93 Southbound in the vicinity of South Station.
Traffic destined for I-90 Westbound will access the I-90 Westbound on-ramp just south of Kneeland Street. This closure gives maintenance crews access to the Lower Deck, Zakim Bridge and O’Neill Tunnel Southbound.
For both the Southbound and Northbound closures-- maintenance crews, contractors, along with State and Boston Police will begin set-up for the closure tonight, Tuesday evening, at 11pm.
Plan Ahead: I-93 Northbound Closures
There will be a complete lane closure for I-93 Northbound on Tuesday, January 15 from 11pm to Wednesday, January 16 at 5am. Last year, MassDOT implemented these twice monthly closures in the O’Neill and Ted Williams Tunnels to clean surfaces, conduct general maintenance and inspect electrical and communication systems. Maintenance activities were suspended during the holiday season. The absence of live traffic allows crews to work safely and efficiently.
